Greyfriars is situated on the south facing chalk slopes of the Hog’s Back (the North Downs) a few miles outside Guildford in Surrey, towards Farnham.
About the Owners
Mike and Hilary Wagstaff, the current owners, took over Greyfriars in 2010 with the aim of expanding the original vineyard planted in1989 from one and a half acres to become a commercial scale producer of quality sparkling wine reflecting the unique local geology, climate and heritage of the Surrey North Downs.
Since acquiring the vineyard, Mike and Hilary have expanded the business to a total of 40 acres under vine on two sites. 2017 was the seventh vintage, producing over 120 tonnes of grapes and bottling about 70,000 bottles.
Making and Storing the Wines
Greyfriars now has a state of the art winery and in 2017 completed digging a 3,500 sq. ft storage ‘cave’ in the chalk slopes of the Hog’s Back.
