Rathfinny Wine Estate was established in 2010 near Alfriston in the South Downs of Sussex, one of England’s exceptional natural landscapes, with the express intention of producing some of the world’s best sparkling wine.

Location and Microclimate

Rathfinny occupies a perfect south-facing slope, just three miles from the sea, and its climate, chalk soils and aspect make it probably the most perfect place to produce wine in a region that is already producing some of the best, award winning English sparkling wines.

Cellar Door

The Gun Room in Alfriston is now selling the still wine from Rathfinny as well as their very own Seven Sisters Gin; the first sparkling wines will be launched in early 2018, the culmination of a huge amount of effort.

The Gun Room is much more than a cellar door, as they sell a beautifully curated selection of up-market wine-related products, which will be supplemented by their own wines as these are released. There is a heritage centre upstairs, too.

Eat and Stay at the Flint Barns

The Flint Barns are available for Bed and Breakfast, to hire on an exclusive basis and for functions throughout the year. If you choose to host a special event at the Estate, the perfect accommodation solution for guests is literally on the doorstep.

There are regular Sunday Lunches and Brunches. You can come early, read the papers and have a coffee and cake, or a Bloody Mary if you need one! You can choose from 2 or 3 courses, accompanied by Rathfinny’s own still wine or choose something from the wine list. Afterwards, you can laze around in front of the fire or out in the courtyard if the sun is shining, read a book, play a game or tackle a jigsaw puzzle.

Supper clubs are also available where the chef will create a different menu every time to showcase local ingredients – sometimes with a little twist!

The Rathfinny Trail

Vineyard tours can also be booked from the Gun Room and if you are feeling energetic, you can get a look at the vineyard itself from the Rathfinny Trail, which joins public footpaths to enable you to walk a circular route.

The Gun Room is located in the middle of the village of Alfriston.

To get to the Flint Barns, travel from Alfriston towards Seaford, pass Deans Place Hotel, and after 200m turn right onto the Estate. The Flint Barns are about one mile further on up the drive.

There are local buses to Alfriston village. Take the 126 bus, which runs from Eastbourne to Seaford, via Polegate and Alfriston.

Alight at The Willows Car Park just at the entrance to Alfriston. From here, walk up North Street to the centre of the village and the High Street to get to the Gun Room.

Pass Deans Place Hotel, and after 200m turn right onto the Estate. The Flint Barns are about one mile further on up the drive.

The nearest railway stations with taxi ranks are Polegate (15-minute transfer), Lewes (20-minute transfer) and Seaford (10-minute transfer).
