The term “Cellar Door” is one that wine lovers visiting Australia and New Zealand will already be familiar with. It is literally the door to the wine producer’s cellar, from where you can directly buy wine. Usually you will be able to taste the available wines and chat with someone who knows about them. You may also be able to tour the vineyard and the winery, possibly even have a bite to eat and there may be the opportunity to buy some other local produce or wine-related items.

By comparing the different wines and hearing the stories behind their production, we are sure you will be pleasantly surprised and delight in taking some English or Welsh wine home – often wine which is not available in shops, or which would cost more if it were.

We definitely recommend that you check the vineyard’s own website before travelling, but our full list of vineyards with filters to enable searching by geographical area, availability of food, tours, accommodation and more should make it easy for you to find which vineyards are near your home, office or holiday destination and which have the facilities that interest you. If you’ve never visited a vineyard before, check out our Where to start suggestions. If you already have some knowledge of English & Welsh wines or are used to visiting vineyards abroad, our guide to recent Award Winners should give you some inspiration.

Most of the wine producers on this site will be happy to receive visitors and sell you some wine any time they are on the premises – please just remember that the smaller producers will have limited (if any!) staff and while they are happy to talk with you about their passion, you shouldn’t take up too much of their time unless you have a reasonable intention to buy.

Whether you are a wine expert, just someone who enjoys a glass of wine and is interested in the countryside and local produce, the 200-odd English & Welsh vineyards that have a cellar door look forward to welcoming you.
