BALFOUR BRUT ROSÉ 2013
Our multi-award-winning sparkling rosé, crafted using the traditional method. Hints of rose hip, greengage and apple on the nose.
The palate is bursting with white currant, quince and lime, with nicely restrained acidity and a wonderfully long finish. This wine has spent a minimum of 3 years ageing on its lees and is disgorged to order to maintain freshness.
Only 8,000 bottles produced.
Hush Heath is pretty unusual as a top end English vineyard and winery with both cellar door sales and a self-guided tour.
Grapes and Wines
Their flagship product is Balfour Brut Rosé, which means that the grapes grown are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Several different varieties of each are grown on different rootstocks to maximise the chance of there being a high enough quality and quantity of harvest. Additional still or sparkling wines may be produced if the requirement for Balfour Brut leaves suitable grapes, for instance a still Chardonnay was made in the first year of having their own winery.
See the Winemaking process
The on-site winery is visible through a glass wall from the beautifully appointed tasting room. Visitors for cellar door sales are welcome to try before they buy. If you are really lucky you might get to meet the winemaker herself; Plumpton graduate Victoria Ash was number 2 in the drinks business worldwide list of “30 Winemakers under 40 to Watch” in 2014.
