The vineyard at Langham Estate covers 30 acres of a sizeable working farm between Dorchester and Blandford Forum in Dorset.
Terroir and Vines
The soil construction of chalk, clay and flint is as found in the Champagne region; Langham Wine Estate have therefore planted the 3 classic varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and their focus is on sparkling wine.
We’ve enjoyed watching the facilities for visitors grow since our first visits a few years ago. An original barn has now been restored to provide a rustic yet practical tasting room. At one end is a bar where you can taste and buy from the cellar door; at the other end is a café with delicious local produce. This makes it the perfect vineyard to pop into, have a bite to eat and stock up your wine rack.
If you have the chance to plan your trip, a variety of tours is available from a self-guided tour with tasting to bespoke tours for larger groups.
Winemaker Daniel Ham trained at Plumpton College, graduating in Viticulture & Oenology with Distinction and being awarded the Top Student Award. After several years gaining valuable experience both in the UK and abroad, Daniel joined Langham Estate; he strongly believes that great wines are made in the vineyard and as result likes to split his time between the vineyard and winery.
Prior to Daniel’s arrival, the winemaker was Liam Idzikowski, who gained recognition with the very first Langham Estate vintage and is now just down the road at Lyme Bay Winery, showing the strength in depth of wine in this corner of Dorset.
The vineyard is well signed from the A354
From the west take A35 direction Poole / Bournemouth. Take A354 / B3142 slip road to Blandford Forum / Milborne St Andrew. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto A354.
From the east take M27 then continue on A31 and A35. Turn right onto A354; the vineyard will be on your left.
From the north A350 / A354 direction Blandford. After you have passed through Milborne St Andrew you will find Langham Wine Estate on the right hand side.
Look out for events pairing Langham Estate wines with delicious local food.
