Rathfinny Wine Estate was established in 2010 near Alfriston in the South Downs of Sussex, one of England’s exceptional natural landscapes, with the express intention of producing some of the world’s best sparkling wine.
First sparkling wines now launched!
2018 sees the long-awaited launch of Rathfinny’s first sparkling wines, a Blanc de Blancs and a Rosé, which are already receiving very positive reviews.
Location and Microclimate
Rathfinny occupies a perfect south-facing slope, just three miles from the sea, and its climate, chalk soils and aspect make it probably the most perfect place to produce wine in a region that is already producing some of the best, award winning English sparkling wines.
Cellar Door & Tasting Room
The new Tasting Room and Cellar Door incorporates the opportunity to enjoy small bites, lunch & dinner (weekends only), featuring fresh local produce and led by chef Chris Bailey.
All tours start and end at the Tasting Room.
Eat and Stay at the Flint Barns
The Flint Barns are available for Bed and Breakfast, to hire on an exclusive basis and for functions throughout the year. If you choose to host a special event at the Estate, the perfect accommodation solution for guests is literally on the doorstep.
There are regular Sunday Lunches and Brunches. You can come early, read the papers and have a coffee and cake, or a Bloody Mary if you need one! You can choose from 2 or 3 courses, accompanied by Rathfinny’s own still wine or choose something from the wine list. Afterwards, you can laze around in front of the fire or out in the courtyard if the sun is shining, read a book, play a game or tackle a jigsaw puzzle.
Supper clubs are also available where the chef will create a different menu every time to showcase local ingredients – sometimes with a little twist!
The Rathfinny Trail
Vineyard tours should be booked in advance, or if you are feeling particularly energetic, you can get a look at the vineyard itself from the Rathfinny Trail, which joins public footpaths to enable you to walk a circular route.
To get to the Cellar Door and Tasting Room and to the Flint Barns, travel from Alfriston towards Seaford, pass Deans Place Hotel, and after 200m turn right onto the Estate. Take it slowly on the road and look out for the Rathfinny Logo at the entrance to the estate and you shouldn’t miss it.
Once you reach the Tasting Room, The Flint Barns will be in sight.
There are local buses to Alfriston village. Take the 126 bus, which runs from Eastbourne to Seaford, via Polegate and Alfriston.
Alight at The Willows Car Park just at the entrance to Alfriston. Walk through the village, pass Deans Place Hotel, and after 200m turn right onto the Estate. The Flint Barns are about one mile further on up the drive.
The nearest railway stations with taxi ranks are Polegate (15-minute transfer), Lewes (20-minute transfer) and Seaford (10-minute transfer).
